Lottery Winner Loses £100,000 Bentley To Floods, Then Promptly Buys A Mercedes Replacement

Britain's recent flooding left this lottery winner's car filled with water. The Gloucestershire businessman who had bought the luxury car with his £5 million (US$8.3 million) lottery win, was forced to abandon it in rising waters near his home.

Winner Robert Johnson had bought his £100,000 (US$167,000) Bentley Continental GT 'pride and joy' in 2008, but when he tried to drive home through the floods last year, he became stuck and had to abandon the midnight blue supercar.

The car was a write-off, as water reached the steering wheel and damaged all the interior and upholstery.

The tow truck couldn't reach it because Bentley Continentals have to be towed from the front, and the water was too deep by then.

The businessman wasn't worried. "It's just a flooded Bentley," he said, and promptly went out and bought a new Mercedes to replace it.
