As I was returning from my daily walk this morning, I heard the deep, throaty sound of a powerful engine.
It seemed to be coming from above the hill behind me.
I paused on my driveway and looked up.

While I was looking for some photos in my old albums, I came across one from Arrowtown, New Zealand, taken maybe 30 years ago.

As he came round the side of our house, a stooped, unkempt figure with darting eyes, little did I know that I was going to experience a life-changing lesson that morning.
I didn't let him inside.
I was a bit uncertain about him.
So he waited patiently while I brought the object to the door.
He turned it over in his hands. "How much did you say you wanted?" he said, never looking up.
I told him a figure, and he sighed.

He looked directly at me, then said,
"Tell me this, Ken," he said, bringing his chair closer to mine.
"What's the chance of me becoming a lottery winner?" and he paused for effect....
