Nine years ago Sharon Tirabassi of Ontario, Canada, won $10.5 million in the Lotto Super 7 lottery game (replaced by Lotto Max in 2009). That was the good news. The bad? That's how the scam starts. An ordinary email telling you that your win has passed through to the accounting department, but the legal team require a 'claim fee' or deposit so they can send it you.
It takes many forms, but the essence of this email or letter is that you have to pay up front to get your win. To make it look legitimate, these scammers often throw in some information to make it look real:

- The draw number, date of the draw, the winning numbers and the jackpot amount.
- An official logo of a lottery organisation.
- A real address of the lottery organisation.
So here's three questions you must ask yourself before shouting out in glee:
Players are fleeing the USA Mega Millions in droves. And all because the organisation increased the odds of playing. Last October 19th they increased the field of 5 numbers from 1 through 56, up to 1 through 75.
The odds rocketed up from 1-in-176 million to 1-in-259 million.
