Nandlall Mangal

42-year-old construction worker Nandlall Mangal won the $245.6 million jackpot in the 2018 US Powerball draw with rapid pick numbers 5, 43, 56, 62, and 68. He bought the $6 ticket that changed his life in a New York convenience store.

Sandeep ‘Sunny’ Singh

Sandeep Singh, known as “Sunny,” is one of the youngest Indians to win an overseas lottery. He was working at Best Buy when he bought the ticket that won him an incredible $30.5 Million.

Sunny had always believed he would eventually win big as he played the lottery regularly. His family never believed him, but they were proven wrong.

Balraj Awasthi

In February 2017, Balraj Awasthi’s life changed forever. It was at that time when he won a colossal $12 Million in Lotto 6/49. When he won, Balraj was working as a chef in Toronto.

He stated that he was going to put his prize to good use setting up his own business. He also expressed a wish to travel to Europe and Australia.

Pragnesh Peter Saija

Just four days after Balraj Awasthi won big another Indian living in Canada followed in his footsteps. In the case of Pragnesh Peter Saija he did not win an international lottery.

He bought a paper ticket for the Canadian Daily Grand Lottery. It must have been Pragnesh’s lucky day as he won an impressive $7 million.

Ushakiran Patel

62-year-old Ushakiran Patel had much to celebrate when she won $1 million in the US Powerball international lottery. She achieved the win in March 2018 with the Quick Pick numbers 06, 13, 19, 36, and 51.

Ushakiran was not a regular lottery player, and she did not have any chosen ‘lucky’ numbers, but this did not prevent her from being successful. This goes to show that it’s not necessary to spend a lot of time stressing over which lottery numbers to choose.

Wins like these Indians achieved are primarily about luck, so wins are just as likely with random number choices as they are with numbers that are ‘lucky.’

These winners are certainly some of the luckiest Indians around. Of course, they are not the only ones to achieve significant lottery wins but they were the biggest achieved so far. It will be interesting to see if they are surpassed in the future.
