And that includes extreme holidays, gourmet dining and art auctions.

Whether that means diving with sharks, private airline flights, luxury slimming clinics, Antarctic expeditions, bespoke safaris and 5-star hospitals, the wealthy are concentrating their spending on unique experiences - often with a hint of danger.

A report by the Boston Consulting Group shows that the world's millionaires are spending on the kind of things that money usually can't buy.

"They already have the luxury toys... the cars and the jewellery," said BCG senior partner Antonella Mei-Pochtler.

So nowadays these high-powered consumers are moving from owning a luxury product, to experiencing a luxury.

Here's the top 10 items that the wealthy bought over the last year according to BCG, and it's obvious 'doing' beat 'having' in this list:

Some of the experiences being bought by the rich are extreme desert adventures, diving with sharks, private airline flights, luxury slimming clinics, Antarctic expeditions, tailor-made safaris and 5-star hospitals with butler attendance.
