The coincidence was important enough to be reported by the country's main newspaper.

Thailand's Bangkok Post newspaper said that many lottery watchers were 'abuzz' on Tuesday because the last three digits of the government lottery first prize matched the licence plate numbers of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's vehicle.

It's not the first time the country has got excited over these kinds of matching numbers.

The last three digits of a first prize in a 2014 lottery from numbers 531404 - matched the 5404 licence plate number of the Volkswagen mini-van used by caretaker prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

In a curious twist, pictures of the licence plates of the two mini-vans were widely posted on social media before the game, urging people to buy both government and underground lottery tickets with the two numbers... 404 and 79.
