Australian lottery will donate $500,000 for flood relief on Telethon today

UPDATE: The Australia Unites telethon raised $25 million in support of the Queensland and New South Wales flood victims. MORE: Red Cross

The Lott, the official home of Australia’s lotteries, will be making a $500,000 donation to the Australian Red Cross. This is to support flood relief efforts in Queensland and New South Wales.

The donation includes $250,000 unclaimed prize money from Golden Casket games.

The donation will be made during a special joint tv telethon called Australia Unites: Red Cross Flood Appeal.

The television appeal will be broadcast from 7.30pm AEDT on Saturday 12 March 2022 on Channel 9 and 9Now, Channel 7 and 7Plus and 10 and 10 Play.

“We encourage Australians to tune in and support this event where they can,” reported The Lott.

“Donations like this are only possible because of our customers and our retailers, some of whom have been directly impacted,” the lottery organisation said in a press release.

The Lott’s contribution continues Australia’s official lotteries history of assisting communities. In 2020, a special Saturday Lotto Bushfire Benefit Draw was conducted, raising $1.8 million for recovery and relief efforts.

This followed the bushfire disasters across many parts of Australia in late 2019 and early 2020.
