Which lottery game over $300 million had the largest number of ticket-holders in recent history?
That game was the 31 August 2007 Mega Millions draw, for $330 million. It was taken by 4 winners, each sharing $82.5 million.
The four tickets were:
1. Tucker Adcock of Buckingham, Va, and Bernard Adcock (this photo, center) and family of Appomattox.
Both brothers were in their 50s at the time, but would not disclose their exact ages because they want to keep their lives private.
The brothers won with numbers they had played before and lost, but Tucker Adcock wanted to use them again for the Aug. 31 drawing. That time it was successful!
Tucker Adcock had been working three jobs in Buckingham. After winning the lottery, his brother convinced him to quit at least one of the jobs. He worked for the Buckingham County utilities department and in recycling and well work.
Bernard Adcock retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections in 2001.
2. John and Sandy Belawsky of Villas, N.J.
The retired couple from Cape May County, bought one of four winning tickets, and theirs was the only winning ticket sold in the Garden State.
The Belawskys said they have played the lottery before but the most they won was about $4,000. They said being mega-millionaires won't change who they are as people, but they know life will be different and they won't have to worry about looking for grocery store deals anymore.
"I can stop clipping the coupons before I go to ShopRite now is really how it translated in my mind," Sandra Belawsky said. "My worries are over."
3. SB Alchemy Holdings, Ltd., of Dallas, Texas.
Scott Carter, representative of the legal entity, said his client preferred to do only minimal publicity and chose him to speak on its behalf.
4. Ellwood "Bunky" Bartlett (L) of Dundalk, Md
'Bunky' is an unconventional lottery winner in a number of ways. He's likely the most avid MMO player ever to hit it big playing the numbers, and possibly the first person to attribute his lottery success to a Tarot card reading.
He has indulged a variety of his interests. He likes pizza, so he bought a pizza franchise that would deliver to his sprawling estate. He likes music, so he started a record label. He is a High Priest of the Wiccan faith, so he invested in a New Age learning center and announced plans to found a spirituality center the media dubbed "Hogwarts in Maryland."
